Summary Convener Maula Bakhsh Chandio has demanded explanation for delay in the project.

ISLAMABAD (Online) - Senate’s standing committee for water and power has asked Planning Commission, ministry of water and power and Law ministry for complete details of Nandipur power project.

The convener of the standing committee’s Wednesday meeting, Maula Bakhsh Chandio has demanded an explanation for delay in the project, which among other anomalies had also raised its cost.

Briefing the committee, the director project Nandipur held the inordinate raise in dollar value, besides intensive time for purchasing, installing and activating complex, heavy machinery imported from China.

He deliberated that the original estimate of $ 22 billion sky-rocketed to $ 88 billion, as Chinese imported machinery rotted at Karachi for four years.

The contractor sued the state for outstanding dues and delays, while the issue was resolved out-of-court against $ 4 million.

Member Planning Commission informed the committee, that law ministry was responsible for any delays in the Nandipur Project and awarding the contract to second highest directed bidder.
