LAHORE (Dunya News) Lahore High Court has ordered to get the audit of Rs 480 billion which have been paid to the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) by the government.
LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial resumed hearing of the case the counsel on the part of the petitioner argued that the government has paid Rs 480 billion to the IPPs but there is no relief in loadshedding; rather it has started getting equalization surcharge on electricity bills.
During hearing, Joint Secretary Water and Power told the court that unannounced loadshedding has been ended and with the passage of time, there would be betterment in current situation.
Upon this, Chief Justice Bandial said that the burden of incompetency and negligence of officers can’t be imposed on masses who are already bound to live hard lives, adding that equalization surcharge on electricity bills can’t be collected at any cost.
The court also ordered the government to appoint all officers including Chief Executive LESCO on merit, with the direction that the schedule of loadshedding should be uploaded on website.
The court also has demanded the record regard equalization surcharge on electricity bills till November 25.
