KARACHI (Dunya News) - Muttahida Qaumi Movement has challenged the Sindh Local Government Act 2013 in the Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court.
MQM has maintained the stance in its petition that the Local Governments Act in Sindh was in clash with Article 140 of the Constitution.
The petition says that in the new law the local governments have been given only responsibilities but no authority.
Talking to media after filing the writ petition on Monday, MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar said that Sindh Local Government Act 2013 was a caricature of 1979 Local Bodies Act, adding it would form only ineffective and useless local government system.
He told the media persons that the Supreme Court had been requested to completely remove the act or order amendments in some of its clauses.
MQM counsel Dr Farogh Naseem termed Sindh Local Government Act 2013 a brainchild of a dictator.
