ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called Malala Yousafzai the pride of the nation.
In a statement‚ PM Nawaz Sharif said Malala is an asset for Pakistan. He said that her efforts for education are an example to be followed by the youth. He said Malala Yousafzai has projected the name of Pakistan at every forum in the world.
The young activist emerged as a contender after continuing her work to promote better rights for girls despite being shot in the head by the Taliban in Swat.
Malala rose to prominence in 2009 after writing a blog anonymously for the BBC Urdu service about her life under Taliban rule in Pakistan s Swat Valley.
On Thursday she was also named as the winner of the EU s Sakharov prize, a 50,000-euro ($65,000) award considered Europe’s top human rights accolade.
However, the winner of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize is a body that has spent years trying to rid the world of chemical weapons in relative obscurity and was recently thrust into the limelight by the Syrian crisis.
