Mamnoon, Theresa May discuss Pak-UK bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistan is keen to further strengthen its strategic and cooperative ties with UK in diverse fields with focus on trade and economic ties.

He was talking to British Home Secretary Theresa May who called on him here on Tuesday. Pak-UK bilateral relations were discussed during the meeting.

Theresa May felicitated the President on assuming his responsibilities as the President and expressed the hope that Pak-UK relations would further strengthen during his tenure.

The President said that Pakistan and the UK have longstanding relations based on shared interests and mutual respect.

He expressed satisfaction on the progress made in Enhanced Strategic Dialogue and urged for more concerted efforts to jack up the bilateral trade volume to new heights. He said there exists huge potential of trade and investment that needs to be explored for the mutual benefit of the people of the two countries.

Mamnoon Hussain appreciated the British Government s support and advocacy of Pakistan s case for greater market access of Pakistani goods to the EU and expressed the hope that British government would also continue to extend its valuable support for inclusion of Pakistan in the GSP Plus scheme.

Discussing regional situation‚ the President said that Pakistan considers regional peace and security vital for its own socio-economic interests and it would continue to support all efforts aimed at promoting peace‚ stability and development in the region.
