Summary Says dictators are better than democratic governments for holding local polls in time.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya NewS) Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the provincial governments must hold local bodies’ elections or submit their reply in writing. 

Three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice Iftikahr Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of the case regarding local bodies’ elections. During hearing, Chief Justice said that nobody would give the favorite date for elections in local governments.

He consulted the Additional Advocate General as why the provincial governments in Sindh and Punjab are not guiding the court about local bodies’ elections adding that provincial governments in Sindh and Punjab are continuation of previous governments.

Chief Justice ordered that both of the provincial governments should state their stance regarding date set for local polls and submit their reply in writing.

He said that courts always have been respecting the democracy, adding that martial administrators are better than democrats as formers always arranged elections in time.

Advocate General told the court that he would submit written statement in the court after consultation with the spokespersons and legal advisors of the provincial government.
