ISLAMABAD (Online) - The government has decided to immediately take up Dasu hydropower project at a cost of six billion dollars.

State-run radio said Sunday work on the project can be initiated within six months without any major paper and technical work. The power generation can also start within two to three years.

The World Bank has been asking Pakistan to prefer 4‚320 MW Dasu project to 4‚500 MW Diamer-Bhasha dam. Dasu project will also provide storage of 8.5 acre-feet of water and enhance the life of Tarbela Dam and barrages downstream.

However‚ work on Diamer-Bhasha project will also continue and completed at a cost of 14 billion dollars. The project will take 10 to 12 years to complete.
