Summary Celebrations of renowned mystic poet Baba Bulleh Shahs Urs started in Kasur on Friday.
KASUR (Dunya News) - Three days Urs of renowned Punjabi poet and sufi saint Syed Abdullah Shah popularly known as Baba Bulleh Shah started here on Friday.
Bulleh Shah was born as Abdullah Shah in Uch Gilaniyan‚ a small village near Bahawalpur. His parents moved to Malakwal when he was six months old‚ where his father‚ a preacher and tutor‚ got a job in Pandoke‚ fifteen miles southeast of Kasur. Bulleh Shah moved to Kasur for higher education and eventually found a mentor in prominent Sufi saint Shah Inayat Qadri.
He practiced and added to the tradition of Punjabi mystic poetry established by Shah Hussain‚ Sultan Bahu and Shah Sharaf and was a contemporary of Punjabi mystic poet Waris Shah‚ and Sindhi mystic poets Abdul Wahed (popularly known as Sachal Sarmast) and Shah Abdul Latif Bhatai. Bulleh Shah wrote in the genre of Kafi‚ following major Punjabi Sufi and Sikh poets. Bulleh Shah wrote about 150 Kafis.
