LAHORE (Dunya News) Acting Chief Election Commissioner has assured that by-polls would be peaceful and transparent. Police should not stop the media from covering main aspects of the polls.
He also visited different polling stations on the eve of by-polls in Lahore and reviewed arrangements.
The Chief Election Commissioner was also briefed about current situation regarding law and order and other issues.
Later, Tasaddaq Hussain Jilani said that police officials should not hinder reporters from media coverage as it would help in holing fair and transparent elections. He assured that by-polls would be fair and conducted in peaceful atmosphere.
On the other hand, Secretary Election Commission has made it clear that presiding officer would be responsible for any disorder or corruption within the limits of polling station. After by-polls, the institution would make arrangements for local bodies’ polls, said Secretary Election Commission.
While talking to the media, he said elections have been postponed for some time in DI Khan. He informed that polling is underway on 41 constituencies in four provinces and 1850 out of 2600 polling stations have been declared more sensitive.
He also said that law and order situation has been made satisfactory and Army is fully cooperating with them.
He made it clear that if rigging is committed within any polling station, presiding officer would be held responsible for it.
