Summary PM Nawaz Sharif says democracy will be strengthened by empowering local governments.

 

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved to hold local bodies elections on non-party basis in Punjab. However, there would be no restriction to contest the elections with party identification.


This was decided in a meeting headed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday.


Addressing the meeting, the PM said that the democracy would be strengthened by empowering local bodies institutions while education and health would be on top priority.

 

Meanwhile, the age limit to contest local bodies elections has been increased to 25 years once again.


Earlier, a special committee of the Punjab Assembly had reduced the age-limit to 18 years.


The meeting also approved to give representation to youth on special seat while age limit to contest on special youth seat would be 21 to 25 years.
