Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan: PM

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif says Pakistan is striving for reconciliatory talks on Afghanistan.

 

He was talking to the US Special Representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan James Dobbins in Islamabad.

 

Dobbins arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday for talks with Pakistan’s civil and military leadership after spending a day in Kabul.

 

They discussed the post-conflict situation of Afghanistan‚ peace dialogues with Taliban‚ upcoming of the visit of US Secretary of State John Kerry to Pakistan and Pak-US bilateral relations.

 

The prime minister was assisted by his adviser on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz, foreign secretary and top civil and military officials.

 

The two sides exchanged views on possibilities of halting drone strikes and bilateral cooperation.

 

James Dobbins took Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif into confidence on opening of Taliban office in Doha.

 

The prime minister termed US drone attacks as unacceptable and said that they are an attack on our soverginity.

 

The visiting American envoy discussed Afghanistan’s elections, scheduled to be held next year. It was decided that ISAF and Pak military would further enhance cooperation on border issues.

 

Both the sides agreed on timely intelligence sharing and increased cooperation in war on terrorism.
