Summary Dr Abdul Basit says he was put off by the disappointing attitude of the court.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Dr. Abdul Basit, lawyer of Editor in Chief Pulse, Mohsin Jamil Baig has refused to proceed further in the contempt of court case due to frustration on the behaviour of the court.
The two member bench resumed the hearing of contempt of court case against Editor-in-Chief weekly Pulse on Tuesday. During proceeding Justice Jawad S. Khawaja said in his remarks that it is the matter of reverence of the court, so no compromise would be made on it.
He said that the court wants to reach at the bottom of the matter and if any employee of Supreme Court including Registrar found involved, action would be taken against him.
Mohsin Baig said on the occasion that the court is hearing all the people in the case, but he is not being given a chance to speak.
He requested the court that he may be given the access to the computer of Registrar Supreme Court; the experts would inspect it, which is necessary to fulfill the requirements of the justice. “Otherwise if the court wants to send me jail, then I am ready to face any consequences”, Baig added.
The bench said that he would be given full chance to clarify his position; he would also be given access to the computer of the Registrar of the court. He may call his experts at his convenience; the court would set date of hearing accordingly.
The court asked Prosecutor General Shah Khawar to present the witnesses of the case. On which Dr. Basit said that before calling the witnesses, the court should decide that application, which was approved for hearing by one judge in his chamber.
He said that the report of international experts and affidavit was also attached with the application, which was not accepted yet by the court. On which the court said that the lawyer would not argue on the matter.
Dr. Basit said that the E-mail in question was mailed from the address of Supreme Court.
Basit added that he wants to say on the case but the court did not allow him to do so. In these circumstances he can not carry on the advocacy in the case. The court adjourned the hearing till today (Wednesday).
