Summary The move by TTP confirms the killing of senior commander Waliur Rehman.

MIRANSHAH (Dunya News) – Khan Syed alias Sajna has been appointed as the successor of the banned group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) deputy leader Waliur Rehman.

According to sources, a US drone had targeted a militant hideout in Chashma Pul area, 4-km off the Miranshah, killing senior TTP commander Waliur Rehman along with five other members. Three of the killed TTP commanders were identified as Fakhr-e-Aalam, Nasiruddin and Adil.

Waliur Rehman was buried in Haqqani graveyard in Danday Darpakhel area on Wednesday night.

Earlies today (Thursday), TTP members held a meeting in South Waziristan and unanimously decided to appoint Khan Syed as new deputy leader.

TTP commander Khan Syed, 36, was an assistant to Waliur Rehman. He belongs to Shobikhel area of South Waziristan.

The killing of Waliur Rehman has not been confirmed by the White House. But it would be a major blow to the militant group. The U.S. had accused Rehman of involvement in a 2009 suicide attack in Afghanistan that killed seven CIA employees.

Rehman s killing could rattle the incoming Pakistani ruling party s goal of negotiating with the Taliban. Rehman had previously been considered amenable to talks.
