Summary After remaining out of electricity, people went berserk to stage protests on roads.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Massive electricity load shedding has triggered protests in most affected areas on Saturday, Dunya News reported.

Prolonged power outages have not only broke the back of already crippled business activities, but also created severe problems for the citizens who are facing unscheduled electricity load shedding of 20 hours round the clock.

The power outages have created severe water shortage in most areas.

Especially, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have been subjected to prolonged and unscheduled electricity load shedding varying between 18 to 20 hours a day.

At present, the power supply across the country is 9,500 MW with demand around 16,500 MW.

PM KHOSO TAKES NOTICE

On Friday, Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso took notice of worsening electricity shortage and directed Minister on Water and Power to take immediate steps to improve the situation.

However, the Power Ministry seems unmoved despite premier’s notice.

PETITION FILED IN LHC

A petition was also filed in Lahore High Court today (Saturday) seeking formation of judicial commission on electricity issue.

The petitioner has asked court to issue directives to end all the private power companies and restore Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

It was also mentioned in the petition that concerned authorities have created  temporary  electricity shortage for their personal interests, thus, a judicial commission should be formed to look into the matter and bring those responsible to justice.
