LHC admits petition against Musharraf's disqualification

Summary Election Tribunal had declared the former president disqualified to contest polls in NA 139.

 

LAHORE (Online): The LHC admitted for hearing a petition praying the court to declare Pervez Musharraf eligible to contest elections.

 

Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court on Monday took up the petition for hearing.

 

The court was told on behalf of Pervez Musharraf that Election Tribunal had declared the former president disqualified to contest polls in NA 139 despite the fact that he had not been convicted in any case.

 

Pervez Musharraf also fulfills the requirements of articles 62 and 63 of the constitution therefore, he be declared eligible to take part in the polls, court was further requested.

 

The court while admitting the petition for regular hearing issued notice to election commission to seek reply from it.

 

A full bench of LHC will hear the case on May 2.
