ISLAMABAD - The Senate on Friday demanded the trial of former President Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution on high treason charges.
The House unanimously adopted a resolution calling upon the government to arrest Pervez Musharraf and try him under article 6.It also demanded implementation of its resolution of January 23, 2012.
Opposition leader Senator Ishaq Dar moved the resolution as PPP Senators Raza Rabbani and Farhatullah Babar supported the move which created consensus for unanimously adopting the resolution.
"The resolution earlier adopted in January 2012 and one being adopted today must be implemented to try Pervez Musharraf," the members had demanded.
"This House calls upon the government to arrest Pervez Musharraf and try him under Article 6 of the Constitution on charges of high treason," the House demanded through the resolution. "All banners and posters of Pervez Musharraf should also be removed," the resolution further stated.
On adoption of the resolution, Senator Raza Rabbani described it a historic moment in the Parliamentary history of the Senate and suggested to place both the resolutions outside the Senate Secretariat.
