Hajj corruption: SC issues notices to Gilani, others

Summary The SC issued notices to Attorney General, Law Ministry and ex-PM regarding Hajj Corruption Case.

 

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -A three- member bench of the Supreme Court headed by chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of the Hajj Corruption Case.

 

During proceeding, Investigation Officer Hussain Asghar said that the Law Ministry had ordered him to stop probing former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani by a letter. According to the aforesaid letter, the prime minister has been declared exempted to law.

 

At this, Justice Gulzar Ahmad remarked that Yousaf Raza Gilani is no more a prime minister. Chief Justice said that only the person enjoys immunity who is in the highest office of the state.

 

The Investigation Officer told the court that there is tremendous rise in Gilani assets as he has acquired vast land after Hajj Corruption Case.

 

At this, the Supreme Court has issued notices to the Attorney General, Law Ministry and former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in this regard.

 

The law ministry also has been ordered to submit its reply regarding the aforesaid letter; either the letter was written on the then PM’s order or on its own behalf.

 

The hearing of the case was adjourned for two weeks.
