Summary Parliamentary committee to will meet again today to select caretaker Punjab Chief Minister.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - The PML-N-led Punjab government proposed the names of Justice (retd) Amir A Raza and Khuwaja Zaheer while the opposition suggested names of senior journalist Najam Sethi and Justice (retd) Syed Zahid Hussain for the slot of caretaker Punjab Chief Minister.
The first session of parliamentary committee over the selection of caretaker chief minister of Punjab ended inconclusively on Sunday.
Unlike KPK, Balochistan and Sindh, Punjab following in the footstep of the center failed to resolve the issue of appointment of a caretaker chief minister for the province and the matter was referred to the parliamentary committee.
The parliamentary committee comprised the ruling N-League’s Rana Sanaullah, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rahman and Iqbal Chanar, while from the opposition Shaukat Basra, Chaudhry Zaheer and Zulfiquar Gondal.
Talking to newsmen‚ Rana Sanaullah Khan said that in Sunday’s meeting‚ the rules of procedure were discussed. He said that Secretary Law Punjab and Advocate General Punjab have been called to attend today s (Monday) meeting to guide the Committee whether any change can be brought in the referred names.
PPP leader Shaukat Mehmood Basra said that the Committee has the full authority and some legal points were being discussed to finalize the rules of procedure.
Constitutionally, the parliamentary committee has to arrive at a consensus decision relating to the selection of caretaker CM within three days failing which the matter will be passed on to the Provincial Election Commission for their final word.
