Summary The nation celebrated 73rd Pakistan Day with the pledge to make Pakistan a truly democratic state.
ISLAMABAD (Online): The day dawned with 31 gun salute in the federal capital and 21 gun salute in the provincial capitals.
Special prayers were offered for the solidarity and integrity of the country and unity of the Muslim Ummah.
It was on this day in 1940 that the historic Pakistan Resolution was adopted in Lahore which led to creation of a separate homeland for the Muslims of South Asia.
The President and the Prime Minister in their separate messages on the occasion have urged the nation to rededicate themselves for democracy‚ federalism and constitutionalism for which Pakistan was created.
It is a closed holiday and the national flag is hoisted on all public buildings.
Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ebad and caretaker Chief Minister Zahid Alvi visited Mazar-e-Quaid‚ offered Fataha and laid floral wreath at the Mazar in Karachi.
Later‚ talking to media Dr. Ishratul Ebad expressed hope that the forthcoming election will be transparent‚ impartial and peaceful.
He said we will have to make Pakistan a stable and peaceful. He appreciated the role of the opposition during five-year of the government s term.
On his part‚ Zahid Qurban Alvi said he will meet all the stakeholders for establishing peace in Karachi.
As part of the celebrations‚ President Asif Ali Zardari decoarted recipients of awards at an investiture ceremony in Islamabad.
Various functions were organized to commemorate the day in a befitting manner. Cultural and sports programmes were held to mark the day.
