Summary Two million dollars were reportedly spent on Dr Aafia Siddiqui case.

ISLAMABAD (Online): Senate Standing Committee on Interior said Tuesday that two million dollars of the nation were spent on Dr Aafia Siddiqui case but no record was available who pocketed this amount.

Committee met here under its chairman senator Talha Mehmood in parliament house Tuesday.

Legal experts while giving briefing to the committee said it was not possible to reach any direct agreement with US as it avoids entering into bilateral treaty with any country on the matter of prisoners.

The only way left to bring back Aafia Siddiqui is that Pakistan should become member of international treaties on repatriation of prisoners and exercise pressure on US through these pacts to bring back Aafia Siddiqui.

Chairman committee said former Pakistani ambassador to US, Hussain Haqqani issued Pakistani visas to thousands of Americans deliberately. Information are there that several Americans were allowed to enter into the country without visas and the PPP led government was fully involved in it. Hussain Haqqani is wanted by Pakistani courts as the relevant rules and regulations were breached by him while issuing visas to Americans.

He said that ministry of foreign affairs officials issued visas to thousands of Americans including agents of CIA and Black Water setting aside the visa norms. Due to which Pakistan is facing law and order situation, he added.

The committee took serious notice of pitiable plight of Pakistani prisoners in other countries and voiced grave concern over non initiation of any proper steps by foreign office on this count.

Committee directed the interior ministry to provide it within fifteen days details of Pakistani prisoners in foreign countries, nature of their offence and term of imprisonment.

The committee while taking notice of absence of officers of ministry of foreign affairs from the meeting said that foreign ministry should take necessary steps for repatriation of Pakistani prisoners from other countries.

Chairman Committee said he would investigate into absence of foreign of ministry affairs officials from the meeting and committee would move privilege motion against the officers who remained absent from the meeting deliberately.
