Summary Federal Tax Ombudsman Shoaib Shuddle says tax evaders should not be allowed to contest elections.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News):-While giving a briefing to the median in Islamabad on Monday, Shoaib Suddle said he would have a meeting with the Chief Election Commission in this regard.
He said that Pakistan stands first amongst the countries who are notorious for tax evasion which is a shame for the entire nation.
“The system may be reformed if 15 to 20 tax evaders are nabbed annually”, said Suddle.
He said that it is very surprising a why the FBR doesn’t collect tax out of defaulters, adding that revolutionary measures should be taken in this regard so that the Federal Board of Revenue may be able to collect taxes in accordance with rules and regulations.
He suggested that tax evaders should not be allowed to contest elections; rather first they should get clearance from the related departments, then they should be allowed to submit nomination papers.
“Before general elections, more than three million tax evaders should be exposed”, said Suddle.
He said that he is bound to assist the Supreme Court of Pakistan under Article 190 of the Constitution.
Quoting facts and figures in this regard, he said that tax evaders make only 1% of the entire population but it is bitter reality that they have hijacked the whole system for their vested interests.
