Overseas voters' right: SC gives two-day deadline to EC

Summary Six million overseas Pakistan are being deprived of their right to vote, Justice Gulzar said.

 

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) –The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the concerned authorities to introduce a voting procedure for overseas Pakistan within two days.

 

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case on expatriate Pakistanis’ right to vote.

 

During case proceeding, the Chief Justice remarked that several countries arrange e-polling service at the embassies to facilitate overseas citizens during the elections, whereas, Election Commission of Pakistan did nothing in this regard.

 

He expressed that time is not enough to introduce a new legislation for the overseas voters. 

 

Later, the bench gave two-day deadline to the concerned authorities. The case hearing was adjourned till tomorrow (Friday).
