Army assures ECP of full security during elections

Summary ECP has issued the code of conduct for the security officials during polling.

 

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) visited Military Operations Directorate, General Headquarters on Friday.

 

According to an ISPR press release, issues related to provision of security during conduct of elections were discussed. Army authorities assured all possible support to ECP to ensure peaceful environment for the elections.

 

More details of sensitive areas/polling stations will be worked out by ECP and shared in next meeting scheduled after announcement of election dates.

 

On the other hand, the Election Commission of Pakistan issued the code of conduct for the security officials during polling.

 

The code of conduct states that the security personnel will be bound to obey presiding officers’ orders and they would not be allowed to enter in the premises of polling station.

 

However, they would be allowed to enter in the premises of polling station on presiding officer’s instructions. Security officials would be responsible for maintaining law and order during the polling.

 

The ECP has also issued the code of conduct for observers for the general elections.

 

Every person who participates in election observation individually or as a member of local group‚ organization or international election observation mission must sign a pledge to abide by the code.

 

Observers will respect the sovereignty of Pakistan and the fundamental rights and freedom of its people.

 

EC says Observers will maintain a strict political impartiality and will not exhibit any bias with regard to national authorities‚ political parties and candidates.
