ISLAMABAD (Agencies): Richard Olson also appreciated the contribution of the interventions of BISP towards uplifting the lives of the poorest of the poor of the society during a meeting with BISP Chairperson Farzana Raja here at her residence.
Earlier, Chairperson BISP informed the ambassador about various schemes as well as the components of the program as multi-pronged strategy to alleviate poverty.
Madame Farzana Raja on this occasion stated that targeted subsidies were the need of the hour to provide immediate relief to millions of the deserving families belonging to lower income strata of the population.
While outlining the details of various initiatives, Madame Farzana Raja said that the BISP is fully committed to carry the war on poverty on till the objective of its complete eradication from the country is being achieved.
Chairperson BISP highlighted the salient features as well as impact of the various measures taken by BISP including the cash transfers, micro-financing, vocational and technical training, life and health insurance and promotion of primary education under the banner of Waseela-e -Taleem.
She said that all of these measures are making significant contribution in the lives of underprivileged segments of society.
During the meeting, several other matters relating to bilateral interests between the two countries also came under detailed discussion. Chairperson BISP, while highlighting various avenues of mutual cooperation in the social sector, underpinned the need of more efforts aiming at enhancing the people to people contacts between the two countries.
