Countrywide protests, sit-ins against Quetta carnage

Summary Strike paralysis Karachi and parts of Sindh, families of victims continue sit-in in Quetta.

 


KARACHI (Online) - Countrywide protests were held on Monday in wake of Quetta tragedy, with national flag lowered at half mast in the Punjab and Balochistan while Sit-ins were being held in different parts of Karachi on the call of the Shia Ulema Council over the latest carnage in Quetta that has claimed at least 84 lives.


Shops and markets were reported shut in parts of the city and traffic was scarce. Furthermore, a number of government and private educational institutions were also closed and the strike was also affecting the schedule of the flights and trains to and from the city.


Women and children were also partaking in the sit-ins being held at the city’s M A Jinnah road’s Numaish chowrangi, Aisha Manzil, Ancholi, Shahrah-i-Pakistan and Shahrah-i-Faisal.


Karachi Bar Council has announced to boycott court as a protest against the Quetta blast. The Karachi Transport Itehad has also announced to support it.


Courts in Karachi‚ Punjab and Balochistan are not working as lawyers are protesting against these killings.

Moreover, flight schedules were also being affected as the patch between Drigh Road and the airport was sealed. A sit-in was also staged on the railway track in Malir Town which had led to affecting the schedule of trains travelling to and from the city.


No train could depart from Karachi due to protest being lodged against Quetta killings.


The protesters and participants of the sit-ins say they would continue to demonstrate until the demands of the heirs of those killed and wounded in the bombing are not met.

Governments of Punjab‚ AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan have also announced one-day mourning against Quetta tragedy today.


A Punjab Government spokesman said to mourn the death of innocent people in Quetta blast‚ the National Flag will be lowered at half mast in the province.


AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed has announced to observe three-day mourning in the state to express solidarity with the families of victims of Quetta blast.


In Gilgit-Baltistan‚ Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah has also announced one day mourning on Quetta tragedy.

 

The Vice President of the Majlis-e-Wahadat-e- Muslimeen, Maulana Amin Shaheedi has called for restrictions on banned organizations and the army being handed control of Quetta. Addressing a news conference, Maulana Shaheedi said the victims of the blast would not be buried and nationwide protests would continue until demands are met.


Mualana Shaheedi added that security agencies had failed in Quetta and even the injured were not being provided proper medical care.
