Summary Supreme Court ordered ECP to set up polling booths at all the embassies for upcoming elections.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Election Commission to ensure registration of overseas Pakistanis so that they could take part in the upcoming general elections.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing overseas Pakistanis right to vote case.
The bench in its interim order on Thursday directed the commission to set up polling booths at all the embassies so that overseas Pakistanis could easily cast their votes.
The court also ordered for issuance of ‘National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistani (NICOP)’.
The bench directed the Election Commission to hold meeting with the concerned authorities to devise any other possible option to ensure participation of overseas Pakistanis in the general elections.
Later‚ the hearing was adjourned till February 22.
