A delegation of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), headed by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, will meet President Asif Ali Zardari today (Tuesday) in Lahore and discuss formation of the interim setup in the run-up to the general elections in the country.
Ch Shujaat will also apprise President Zardari about his meeting with Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri.
Earlier, on Monday Governor Punjab Makhdoom Syed Ahmad Mehmood called on President Asif Ali Zardari and discussed situation in the province.
In a meeting held at the Bilawal House, various developmental projects of the province and issues relating to the respective constituencies of the parliamentarians were discussed. Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, MNA Syed Mustafa Mahmud and MPA Makhdoom Syed Murtaza Mehmood were also present.
President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday also visited the Services Hospital, Lahore to inquire about the health of Ch. Shaukat Mahmood Basra.
Governor Punjab Makhdoom Syed Ahmad Mehmood, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz Ahmed, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira and other parliamentarians were also present on the occasion.
Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar recalled that Ch. Shaukat Mahmood Basra was injured yesterday after he was baton-charged by the police when he visited the camp of protesting doctors to express his solidarity with the young doctors who were protesting for improving their service conditions.
Meanwhile, Chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Syed Asif Hashmi also called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Governor House on Monday.
Chairman ETPB briefed the President about various steps taken by the Board for the welfare of the minorities in the country and facilitating pilgrims.
The President while appreciating ETPB’s efforts for facilitating and safeguarding the rights of the minorities reiterated that the Government was committed to the welfare of the non-Muslim brethren living in the country. Recounting various significant measures undertaken by the present Government for welfare of minorities including allocation of reserved seats in Senate, five percent job quota in all Federal Government jobs, commemorating 11th August every year as Minority Day, establishment of a hotline for the timely redressal of grievances of the non-Mulsim citizens, the President said that the Government would continue to protect and safeguard the rights of the minorities as enshrined in the constitution.
The President advised Chairman ETPB to ensure that the religious places of the minorities are protected and saved from encroachments.
