ISLAMABAD: Bill has been evolved to create new province comprising of 3 divisions of South Punjab.
The new province, which is named as Bahawalpur province, will be composed of 3 divisions including Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan and Bahawalpur.
The bill will be presented in the next session of national assembly and government has geared up pace of its contacts with other political parties to solicit their support on the creation of new province.
Government is of the opinion that new province will not be created on ethnic basis but it will be carved out keeping in view the local and regional requirements.
When contacted by the government on this matter, PML-N raised objection on the bill saying it supported creation of new province but had objection on the name of the province.
Earlier, Core Committee of Bahawalpur Province Tehrik, in meeting chaired by Governor Punjab Ahmad Mehmood, has approved presentation of a bill in the National Assembly during the upcoming session.
According to sources Governor Punjab has decided to speed up contacts with all the stakeholders in this connection.
Core Committee also agreed to contact Salauddin Abbassi and Muhammad Ali Durrani.
