Summary Federal Minister for Communications says Highway network will boost trade, tourism and industry.
ISLAMABAD:-Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan has said that Taxila-Khanpur-Haripur Highway will boost trade, tourism and industry in the area and facilitate the people in their travel.
He expressed these views talking to the media on the ground- breaking ceremony of the rehabilitation and up-gradation of Taxila-Khanpur-Haripur Highway. He said that the PPP government is paying exclusive attention to improve communication infrastructures.
Arbab Alamgir told the media persons the main feature of this highway is that its 7 km part is in Punjab while 36 km calls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This project has been estimated to Rs 2854 million.
This 43-kilometer highway starts at Taxila on Peshawar Rawalpindi National Highway and reaches Khanpur and Haripur and this is an important link between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This road was federalized in 2010 and declared a national highway.
Federal Minister said that with the completion of this highway, links between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be strengthened for improvement of trade and business activities in both the provinces.
The Federal Minister said that the road networks of a country determine its overall progress and the Ministry of Communications is working under the National Trade Corridor Program that will boost economic development of the whole region.
He said that under the National Trade Corridor Program, progress is being made to set up an efficient, swift, and world-standard highway network so that a quality-communication facility may be provided to the future trade traffic. In this connection, work is in progress on projects such as North-South Expressway, Motorway System, Gwadar Port and Up-gradation of Karakoram Highway, the Minister added.
He said that said project is being monitored by Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
