ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik is due to begin an official trip to India on Friday1, during which he will hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Malik will also hold talks with his Indian counterpart Sushil Shinde.

Reports say the two sides are likely to announce the fresh visa terms aimed at easing travel between the countries. The deal came after talks in Islamabad between the Indian and Pakistani foreign ministers in September.

The move is part of efforts to improve ties between Islamabad and New Delhi which were badly damaged in 2008 when gunmen attacked Mumbai in India. It makes it easier for businesspeople as well as those with relatives across the border to travel freely.

Rehman Malik is expected to hold talks with PM Singh on Saturday, India' state TV reported.

Mr Malik's trip comes ahead of Pakistan's first cricket series in India for five years.

India is likely to issue 3,000 visas to Pakistani cricket fans attending a short limited-overs tour beginning on 25 December.

According to analysts, the move to resume cricketing ties is a sign of improving relations between the two countries.
