Summary Senate body has expressed annoyance over corruption in NHA contracts.
ISLAMABAD: Special body constituted by Senate’s Standing-committee for Communications has expressed annoyance over the release of contracts by National Highway Authority for an amount that exceeds the estimated cost for the repair of roads.
Sources said that the special committee has decided that if irregularities against NHA were proven, the matter would be referred to National Accountability Bureau.
Meeting of special body of Senate’s Standing-committee for Communications was held Thursday in the Parliament House in the chairmanship of Senator Zahid Khan.
On the occasion, the tenders released by NHA for the repair of roads in Abbottabad were analysed. It was revealed during the meeting that NHA has released four contracts for an amount that exceeds estimated cost of the project.
The contractor for construction of Underpass in Taxila on GT Road received Rs 15 million more than the amount that was due, it was ascertained by the Senate body.
Moreover, Senator Zahid Khan stated that several contracts released by NHA were suspicious.
