50,000 Pakistanis to benefit from UAE amnesty programme

Summary Pak Ambassador says counters have been set up for resolving CNIC and passport issues.

 

DUBAI: Jamil Ahmed Khan said that the facilitation counters have been setup in the embassy as well as Consulate General for Pakistani community based in UAE, which would help them not only in renewal of passports and making CNIC but also assist, those Pakistanis who do not possess any proof of nationality.


Jamil Ahmed Khan was addressing a press conference held at the Consulate General of Pakistan, here on Tuesday. Pakistani Consul General Tariq Iqbal Soomro was also present on the occasion.


“During the last three amnesties granted by UAE Government in 1996, 2003 and 2007 some 100,000 Pakistanis availed the opportunity. Now it is estimated that more than 50,000 Pakistanis are likely to avail of the current amnesty program.” he told the journalists.


The diplomat said that the Embassy would bear the expenses for application writing, copying of identity documents and photographs for the amnesty seekers as they would get their travel documents free of cost.


He said that the embassy also proposed to the government of Pakistan that the people who are being repatriated to the country should be assisted in giving soft loans to the tune of Rs300, 000 each through Benazir Income Support Program for their re-settlement


“The amnesty announcement by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al- Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi is yet another demonstration of his magnanimity and respect for human values and human rights”, Ambassador added.


“We must respect the law of the land as had been done in past and all Pakistanis should avail the opportunity of amnesty lest they become out of Status or illegal”, Ambassador Jamil further stated.
