Summary Khurshid Shah says parliament and provinces, and not the judiciary will decide fate of the dam.
SUKKUR: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Khurshid Shah said that we will not let Kalabagh Dam built at any cost; the verdict of court in this connection seems pointless.
He said this on the occasion of inaugurating a number of projects at the Civil Hospital here on Sunday.
The minister said it is the ‘prerogative of the parliament and provinces and not the judiciary to decide fate of the dam’.
About the proposed de-weaponization, he said it should be conducted in the entire country and not just Karachi. ‘All stakeholders should sit down and build consensus on the issue’, he added. On elections, he reiterated that efforts are afoot to hold these transparently in the country.
It is to be mentioned here a verdict of Lahore High Court to build Kalabagh Dam has drawn stern reaction from the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party, which has a strong vote bank from the interior Sindh. This might broaden the rift between the ruling party and judiciary in the country.
