ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Saturday said that the government wants to sort out the issue of general elections in consultation with the opposition.
He said this during his visit to the office of Dunya TV channel in Islamabad on Saturday.
The prime minister said for the first time in Pakistan’s history the elected government is completing its tenure. He said both the government and opposition should work together to strengthen democracy.
Talking about the upcoming elections, the PM said that the government is determined to hold free, fair and independent election in the country while the elections will be held in time.
He said that the government is pursuing the policy of austerity and despite the inflation, the government expenditure increased only by 7 percent.
Talking about law and order situation in Karachi, the PM said that measures are being taken to overcome law and order situation in the Port City.
He stated that the PPP-led coalition government is also giving priority to the development of Balochistan and several mega-projects have been initiated in the province for the welfare of the people.
The PM said that despite number of difficulties, challenges and in tense situation, the PPP-led coalition government has steadfastly followed its policies of austerity and key reforms.
Referring to the achievements of the government, the Prime Minister maintained that the federal government provided more resources to the provinces through NFC Award. Moreover, the country achieved self-sufficiency in food through its pro-farmers policy.
Replying to a question, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that Assemblies of the three provinces have already voted against the construction of Kalabagh Dam. Those talking of Kalabagh Dam have done nothing for the people.
Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the establishment of new province South Punjab is not merely a political statement of the PPP rather the government is determined to establish new province South Punjab. Adding he said that the government is working in this regard.
The Prime Minister also congratulated the staff of Dunya Television on the occasion of its 4th anniversary.
