Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain on Thursday termed the Supreme Court’s remarks over delimitation of constituencies in Karachi as unlawful and said that it was a conspiracy to steal the party’s mandate.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to submit a report after consultation with the Sindh government and other stakeholders regarding the delimitation of constituencies in Karachi that may end the political and ethnic polarisation in the city.
SC’s five-member bench headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali gave the remarks. Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain were also included in the bench.
“It is the right of the people to vote where they wanted to,” he said adding that SC’s remarks hinted at an attempt to steal the majority mandate of the MQM.
“Any delimitation without new census will be unconstitutional,” he added.
The MQM chief also demanded President Asif Ali Zardari, Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take notice of the “biased remarks”.
