Summary PM cancels the orders of interior ministry after meeting with CEOs of cell phone companies.


Islamabad: Raja Pervaiz Ashraf while setting aside decisions of the interior ministry Thursday permitted the sale SIMs at franchises but business outlets.


However, he said retailers would not be allowed to sell the SIMs in their personal capacity.


The decision was taken after a meeting with the representatives of mobile phone companies at the Prime Minister House.

 

The ban on portability and shifting from one network to other has also been lifted.


The prime minister said that SIM cards would be issued only after verification by the NADRA.


Convenience of common man must be kept in view before taking any step by the government, he opined.


He said decisions regarding the mobile phone companies would be taken in consultation with stakeholders.


PM assured the CEOs of cell phone companies of all cooperation.

 

Defending the suspension of cell phone service on 9th and 10th he said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure for the safety and survival of the people.
