Summary Search and rescue operation continue at Gayari Sector in Siachen on 28th consecutive day.
According to rescue sources, heavy machinery is being used at seven points for excavation at Gayari sector.A 40-feet wide path is being made to reach the residential area of headquarter. However, 80-90 feet down excavation has been done so far.Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Gayari site yesterday to see the progress of rescue efforts.COAS was briefed about the progress of ongoing work including the efforts to create a water course to safely drain the lake formed by blocking of Gayari river by the avalanche. The satellite data link also became operational last day, which will allow real time video monitoring of relief work from GHQ.
