Summary PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif says his party would hold national interest supreme on PCNS report issue.
The Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) has filed its report on review of the Pak-US ties severed after Nato’s strike on Salala check posts. In this regard, the Opposition parties had held a meeting the other day and decided that the government would not be allowed to restore Nato supplies. The recommendations agreed by the Opposition leaders were placed before the PML-N Central Executive Committee to finalise its response in this context. However, emerging out of the party meeting at Raiwind, Nawaz didn’t disclose details of his party’s response, neither did he say that his party would oppose the PCNS report in the parliament. All he would say was that the PM-N would keep in view national interest.Asked why the PML-N not come in the open and take firm stance against the government, Nawaz artfully used the question to mention increasing loadshedding. He said loadshedding is costing the economy dearly. In keeping with old policy of ‘friendly opposition’ over the last four years, Nawaz once again didn’t give a clear roadmap on the issue. “People are losing jobs, industry is suffering, so much so that agriculture is also suffering,” the PML-N chief said as if the people are unaware of the ill effects of loadshedding. “We will stand by the people protesting against loadsheddijng,” said Nawaz without promising that his party would give the protesting public his party’s platform to bring about a change in the situation.Nawaz said PM Gilani complained the other day that he had not been greeted on completing four years in government. In response, the PML-N chief mentioned all the issues afflicting the country -- from corruption to law and order in Balochistan –- yet in a tone devoid of any offense or charge. If Nawaz’s tone were to reflect anything, the PML-N is likely to toe the government’s line on the PCNS issue as it has done on several other issues over the last four years.
