The Pakistan Day is being celebrated across the country to commemorate ‘Lahore Resolution’ of 1940 which is also called the ‘Pakistan Resolution’ that eventually led to the creation of this country.The day is being observed as a public holiday in all federal and provincial government offices, banks and private sectors.The celebrations commenced with 31 gun salutes in Islamabad whereas, 21 gun salutes took place in the provincial capitals.On the day, people visited the mausoleum of the founder of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi and Mausoleum of Dr Allama Iqbal in Lahore.Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah along with other cabinet’s officials laid floral wreaths on the grave of Quaid-e-Azam and offered fateha.Political, literary organizations and educational institutions have also organized special functions to mark the day.On March 23, 1940, a resolution was passed which negated the concept of United India and recommended the creation of an independent state for theMuslims.The resolution paved the way for the creation of Pakistan in 1947 as a single state and provided the principles of a constitutional plan for partition of India.
