Summary The CJP has said that corruption has marred Pakistan Steel Mills.

Supreme Court of Pakistan resumed the hearing of Pakistan Steel Mills on Tuesday.During his remarks, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that the court saved Pakistan Steel Mills from privatization but it has become victim of corruption.Counsel for Steel Mills Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim submitted the forensic audit report and told that the Steel Mills faced a loss of 26 billion due to corruption and mismanagement.He said that the Steel Mills chairman was arrested on corruption charges but he never spent a single day in the prison as he was immediately admitted to hospital.During his remarks, Justice Tariq said those involved in corruption are still part of Steel Mills administration.The Chief Justice said the court will send the case to NAB.Steel Mills’ counsel Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim said it is better to send the case to NAB and in this way we can also save finances.Justice Khilji Arif said that everybody knows what is happening in steel mills but NAB is not paying attention on the issue. The Chief Justice asked Secretary Production that the ministry is not taking action despite the knowledge of corruption.The court in its ruling said it seem that the Steel Mills suffered the loss due to corruption and mismanagement.The court sought the reply from Secretary Industries and Production regarding forensic report within 2 days and adjourned the hearing till March 15.
