Jean Dujardin wins the Leading Actor BAFTA for The Artist, Meryl Streep was awarded the BAFTA for Leading Actress for her performance as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady , The Helps Octavia Spencer won in the Supporting Actress category and Christopher Plummer won Supporting Actor for his performance in Beginners.French actor, Jean Dujardin, lesser-known than his counterparts George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Gary Oldman and Michael Fassbender, won the Leading Actor award at Sundays Orange British Academy of Film and Television of Arts (BAFTA) awards. The gong is one of seven wins for silent movie The Artist, which was the big winner of the night.Meryl Streep had a Cinderella moment, as she accidently slipped out of one of her shoes when making her way to the podium to collect her BAFTA gong for Best Actress. Winner of the Supporting Actress BAFTA was Octavia Spencer from The Help.Christopher Plummer who was awarded the Supporting Actor prize for Beginners was not on hand to collect the accolade in person. Instead, award presenter Helena Bonham Carter read out a personal note:The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards are the most coveted film honours outside the United States.The awards season will culminate with the Academy Awards, due to be held in Los Angeles on February 26.
