Summary Stung by Khan's sudden 'no-show,' scores of his fans went berserk.
Angry fans and locals went on a violent rampage on Tuesday to vent their ire at the last-minute postponement of a promotional event featuring Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan in the Patna city of Indias eastern Bihar state.Khan was scheduled to arrive at a popular mall in Patna to promote his upcoming film, Don-2, but failed to turn up due to bad weather.Stung by Khans sudden no-show, scores of his fans went berserk, damaging equipment, banners and posters and even scuffling with police officials deployed at the venue.Khans irate fans even pelted stones at the police personnel, who retaliated by charging the unruly mob with batons in a bid to disperse the rioters.Television cameras even showed baton-wielding police personnel chasing after fans and beating them up.However, denying any use of force in curbing the agitation, a senior police official asserted that normalcy has been restored through talks and negotiations with the angry fans.Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was supposed to visit a mall here, but was unable to do so due to some functional reason. I think that his flight did not get clearance due to fog. Due to this, his fans turned angry and began agitating here. We spoke to them and sorted things out. Some youth were unnecessarily loitering around here, so we dispersed them. The situation is under control, Upendra Sharma, City Superintendent of Police in Patna, told mediapersons.Sharma also confirmed that at least eight people had been detained in connection with the violence.Khan has planned to extensively tour the country to promote Don-2, which is a sequel to the hugely successful franchise, Don.Besides Khan, the film stars Bollywood actor Boman Irani and actress Priyanka Chopra in the action-packed thriller, which is one of the most anticipated movie releases of the year.Directed by acclaimed director Farhan Akhtar, the film is slated for release on December 23.
