It is not only Rihanna who surpassed Lady Gaga’s popularity but Firework star Katy Perry also reduced eccentric superstar’s status by winning a leading nine nominations for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.Pop singer Katy was nominated for best female video for Firework, as well as best pop video for Last Friday Night. Perry will compete with Adele, Bruno Mars and Beastie Boys for video of the year. Lady Gaga was the big winner at last years MTV music awards, taking home eight prizes, including video of the year for Bad Romance.British singer Adele whose second album 21 is the worlds top-selling record this year, earned seven nominations. Soulful Grenade singer Bruno Mars earned four nominations while Beyonce, Eminem, rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars and female rapper Nicki Minaj racked up three nods apiece.
