The royal bride-to-be asked royal jewellers, G Collins and Sons, to fit two platinum beads, called speed bumps, inside the band to safeguard the accidental slip of the 18-carat sapphire and diamond band off her finger.Although the ring is valued at 32 million pounds, Prince William chose to offer it to his betrothed for deeply sentimental reasons. In 1981, Lady Diana chose the sapphire stone with diamonds for her own engagement. Kate does not want to lose this family heirloom.
