(Dunya News) – Theatrical plays hold significance due to their artistic reflection on the state of the society. Where artists perform, live in front of the audience, this medium is one of the oldest art form known to man.

Throughout the world, including Pakistan, the World Theatre Day is observed on March 27 as it plays a significant role in honouring the history of each country’s theatre, from famous plays to writers and artists associated with it.

When it comes to the history of theatre in subcontinent, many prominent writers are still remembered through their stage dramas and storytelling.

Among famous writers are Agha Hashar Kashmiri, who is famously known as the “Shakespeare of Urdu”, Imtiaz Ali Taj, Krishan Chander and Manto. Through their stage dramas these iconic writers have portrayed and reflected upon various aspects of the society.

Even today, in Pakistan, the audience is still captivated by a wide range of storylines and topics adopted in theatrical dramas.

In Lahore, Al Hamra, Rafi Peer and Ajoka Theatre are working hard towards the revival and preservation of theatrical art in the region. Furthermore, many educational institutions have their own drama societies, where young enthusiastic artists are learning theatre.
