Summary 18th death anniversary of poet, Habib Jalib, is being observed today (Saturday).

Jalib was born in 1928 in Hoshiarpur, India. He migrated to Pakistan after partition and was associated with ‘Sindh Hari Tehreek’ for some time.He addressed common people’s issues in his poetry and never hesitated of criticising flawed policies of military dictators. He was a member of the Communist Party of Pakistan.When the Communist Party was banned and started working under the banner of National Awami Party (NAP), Jalib joined the NAP. Due to his blunt expression of his beliefs, he was imprisoned several times during his life.His revolutionary poetry was a great contribution to Urdu literature that encouraged people to stand against oppression. Jalib died on March 12, 1993 and was posthumously awarded with Nishan-e-Imtiaz.
