Paris Fashion Week: Sarah Burtons collection gets viewers attention
Updated on

Summary British designer Sarah Burton presented women's ready-to-wear collection during Paris Fashion Week.

The catwalk show was held inside the Conciergerie, a former royal palace and prison in Paris where Marie Antoinette spent her final days before she was shipped off to the nearby Concorde square to be guillotined. There was a big play on light and dark, with swan-like feathers adorning virginal white dresses offset by leather harnesses and studded chokers. The opening number was a flared white jacket with black piping that was embellished at the shoulders, cuffs and hemline with thick tufts of fur paired with a matching skirt with flared kick pleats. In addition to fur, another main theme of Burtons collection was volume, as witnessed in the full ruffled skirts on the evening gowns.Burton, who joined the avant-garde label Alexander McQueen in 1996 as an intern, took over the role of creative director when McQueen committed suicide last year. She completed McQueens Autumn/Winter 2010/11 collection for Paris Fashion Week last October and won accolades from fashion editors for her sharp tailoring and creativity.
