Summary London-based film production company Pinewood Shepperton broke ground Wednesday at a new studio in the Dominican Republic to serve the Latin American film market.

Dominican President Leonel Fernandez joined businessmen at the site where the company plans to start construction on the studio right away. They hope to have the complex functioning as early as the beginning of 2012. Pinewood turned to the Indomina Group, based in the US and the Dominican Republic, after a recent push to build a new studio in the UK was rejected.
