Tax department plans to bring high-income singers into tax net

Summary The Income Tax Department has started scrutiny of the assets of singers earning millions of rupees to bring them into the tax net.

The income tax department has come into action to get the bank account details of prominent singers including Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif Aslam and Ali Zafar. The singers, who earn millions of rupees from private shows, don’t disclose their exact income to the income tax officials.After the completion of inquiry, the singers, who were not paying the tax according to their incomes, would be bound to pay thrice the amount as penalty. Sources of the income tax department said that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was not paying income tax and his tax can be Rs 5-7 crore according to his income.
