Summary
Former Tube train driver John Polley, 50, has spent over two years designing and creating a miniature model of Abbey Road underground station in his garage. The 20 foot train set is so detailed that, if you look closely enough, you can see The Beatles, led by John Lennon, walking across the famous pedestrian crossing. Announcements of mind the gap and this is Abbey Road can be heard, while the high street comes with a McDonald's, Marks & Spencer and a Tesco store. Directional head and tail lamps are fitted to all of the trains and some are installed with video cameras to provide a driver's eye view. The model, which is based on real places but set in a fictitious London, is built to a scale where 4mm equals 30cm. Mr Polley used a variety of materials to build the set, including shop window display signs for the buildings and old key rings to make parts of the vehicles.
